The Sunshine classroom emphasizes sharing, cooperating, communication skills, self-help skills, and a greater understanding and respect for others. Each day begins with Morning Meeting which allows the children to develop cooperation and listening skills as they recognize letters, numbers, months and days of the week in both English and Spanish. Mathematical concepts such as patterning and graphing are also discussed during daily calendar and weather activities. The classroom is divided into interest areas that change weekly according to the class’s project including art, science, math, writing, dramatic play, family life, blocks, and music & listening. Special features of the Sunshine classroom include show & tell, Grandfriend’s Day, extra-curricular activities, library, field trips, and a weekly visit to the Art Studio. Children learn, grow, and acquire skills at their own pace, engaging in age-appropriate activities to challenge themselves and build feelings of success.
